Imodium (IMODIUM) capsules contain loperamide hydrochloride 2 mg each, in a pack of 6. Slows excessive bowel movement to help the body absorb water and salts.
Indications
- Symptomatic treatment of short episodes of diarrhoea lasting up to 48 hours.
- IBS-related diarrhoea in adults aged 18 and over with a previous medical diagnosis of IBS.
How to Use
- Adults: two capsules initially, then one capsule after each loose stool. Swallow whole with water.
- Maximum 6 capsules in 24 hours. Do not use for an episode lasting more than 48 hours without consulting a doctor.
- Replace lost fluid by drinking more than usual.
- For children: follow the patient leaflet and consult a pharmacist.
Do Not Use In The Following Cases
- Allergy to any ingredient.
- Severe diarrhoea after antibiotics.
- An active episode of inflammatory bowel disease such as ulcerative colitis.
- Constipation or abdominal bloating.
- Acute dysentery with blood in the stool and fever.
Warnings & Precautions
- Consult a doctor first if you have liver disease or take ritonavir, quinidine, oral desmopressin, itraconazole, ketoconazole or gemfibrozil.
- Pregnancy: consult a doctor or pharmacist before use. Do not use while breastfeeding.
- Do not exceed the recommended dose; serious heart problems have been reported in people taking excessive amounts.
Common Side Effects
- Common: nausea, constipation, gas and headache.
- Stop using and seek medical help immediately for wheezing, shortness of breath, swelling of the face or throat, or a severe skin rash.
Storage
Store below 25 degrees Celsius. Keep out of reach of children.
