Postinor-2 tablets contain levonorgestrel 0.75 mg per tablet, in a pack of two tablets. This emergency contraceptive is taken within 72 hours after unprotected intercourse.
Indications
- Emergency contraception when no contraceptive method was used or when it failed, such as a broken condom or missed pills for 3 days or more.
How to Use
- Follow the patient leaflet or the pharmacist's instructions.
- Take as soon as possible, preferably within 12 hours and no later than 72 hours after intercourse.
- If you vomit within 3 hours of taking it, the dose may need to be repeated. Consult a pharmacist immediately.
Do Not Use In The Following Cases
- Allergy to levonorgestrel or any tablet ingredient.
- An existing pregnancy: it does not terminate a pregnancy.
- Rare hereditary lactose or galactose intolerance, as it contains lactose.
Warnings & Precautions
- It does not replace regular contraception. Repeated use within the same menstrual cycle is not recommended.
- It does not prevent pregnancy in every case. If your period is more than 5 days late, pregnancy should be ruled out, taking the possibility of ectopic pregnancy into account.
- Its effectiveness may be reduced by rifampicin, carbamazepine, phenytoin, efavirenz, St John's wort or Crohn's disease.
- It does not protect against sexually transmitted infections. Levonorgestrel is excreted in breast milk.
Common Side Effects
- Nausea, headache, lower abdominal pain, bleeding outside the menstrual period and tiredness; sometimes dizziness or vomiting.
- Seek medical advice immediately for severe chest pain, sudden shortness of breath, calf pain, sudden loss of vision or yellowing of the skin.
Storage
Store below 30 degrees Celsius. Keep out of reach of children.
