Folicum 5 mg tablets contain 5 mg of folic acid per tablet, in a pack of 20 tablets. Folic acid is a vitamin essential for producing and maintaining new cells.
Indications
- Treatment and prevention of folate-deficiency anaemia, including anaemia during pregnancy.
- Anaemia caused by certain medicines or the breakdown of red blood cells, or in patients receiving dialysis.
- May be given to some women before and during pregnancy to prevent spina bifida in the baby.
How to Use
- Follow the patient leaflet or the pharmacist's instructions.
- For children: follow the patient leaflet and consult a pharmacist.
Do Not Use In The Following Cases
- Allergy to folic acid or any tablet ingredient.
- Cancer, unless the anaemia is caused by folic acid deficiency.
Warnings & Precautions
- Consult a doctor before use if you are receiving dialysis, have a coronary stent, pernicious anaemia or vitamin B12 deficiency, or have a tumour.
- May interact with epilepsy medicines, certain antibiotics and cholestyramine.
- Leave at least two hours between this medicine and antacids containing aluminium or magnesium.
- Pregnancy: may be taken to treat anaemia. Breastfeeding: speak to a doctor first.
- Do not use to treat anaemia without a full examination to determine its cause.
Common Side Effects
- Loss of appetite, nausea, abdominal bloating and gas may occur, and symptoms of vitamin B12 deficiency may worsen.
- Seek medical help immediately if you develop a rash, facial swelling or difficulty breathing.
Storage
Store below 30°C, away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
