Movicol powder in sachets is used to prepare an oral solution. Each 13.8 g sachet contains macrogol 3350 with sodium chloride, sodium bicarbonate and potassium chloride, in a pack of 20. It is a laxative for treating constipation in adults, adolescents and older adults.
Indications
- Constipation, including long-standing constipation.
- Faecal impaction (severe constipation) after the diagnosis is confirmed.
How to Use
- For adults with constipation: dissolve one sachet in 125 ml of water, one to three times daily depending on the severity of constipation.
- Treatment usually lasts about two weeks; consult a doctor for longer use. Follow a doctor's directions for faecal impaction dosing.
- Not recommended for children under 12.
Do Not Use In The Following Cases
- Bowel obstruction or paralysis, or a perforation in the bowel wall.
- Severe bowel inflammation, such as ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease or toxic megacolon.
- Allergy to any of its ingredients.
Warnings & Precautions
- Continue drinking sufficient fluids.
- Do not take other oral medicines within one hour before or after a dose.
- Contains sodium. Consult a doctor if you need three or more sachets daily for a prolonged period, especially if following a low-salt diet.
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding: may be used after consulting a pharmacist or doctor.
Common Side Effects
- Abdominal pain or rumbling, bloating and gas, nausea, pain around the anus, or mild diarrhoea initially.
- Stop use and tell a doctor straightaway if severe allergy occurs with difficulty breathing or swelling of the face or throat.
Storage
Store below 25 degrees Celsius. Keep out of reach of children.
