Flamazine (FLAMAZINE) is a sterile skin cream containing silver sulfadiazine 1%, in a 50 g tube. It is an antibacterial that kills bacteria or stops their growth and is mainly used for burns.
Indications
- Prevention or treatment of bacterial infection in burns.
- Short-term treatment of bacterial infection in leg ulcers or pressure sores.
- Fingertip injuries involving loss of a nail or part of the fingertip.
How to Use
- Usually applied by a doctor or nurse: a 3 to 5 mm layer over the affected area using a sterile glove or spatula, then covered with an absorbent dressing.
- For burns, reapply at least once every 24 hours and do not use longer than the doctor specified.
- For children: follow the patient leaflet and consult a pharmacist.
Do Not Use In The Following Cases
- Allergy to silver sulfadiazine, cream ingredients or sulfonamide medicines.
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding.
- Premature babies and newborns in the first months of life.
Warnings & Precautions
- Consult a doctor before use if you have kidney, liver or breathing problems or G6PD deficiency.
- A serious skin rash (Stevens-Johnson syndrome) has been reported. Seek medical advice immediately for red spots, blisters or mouth ulcers.
- Do not smoke or approach flames: fabrics and dressings in contact with the cream burn easily.
Common Side Effects
- Common effects: irritation, burning or itching, rash around the wound and reduced white blood cells.
- The wound may turn grey or black; this is not a cause for concern.
Storage
Store below 25 degrees Celsius. Keep out of reach of children.
