Vicks VapoRub (VICKS VAPORUB) is an ointment for external use containing camphor, turpentine oil, menthol and eucalyptus oil. It is used to relieve nasal congestion, catarrh, sore throat and cough associated with a cold.
Indications
- Blocked nose, nasal congestion and catarrh associated with a cold.
- Sore throat and cough caused by a cold.
How to Use
- Follow the patient leaflet or the pharmacist's instructions.
- For external use only: rub onto the chest and back, leaving clothing loose to facilitate inhalation of the vapours.
- Do not use in children under 2 years. Do not use hot-water inhalation in children under 6 years.
- For children: follow the patient leaflet and consult a pharmacist.
Do Not Use In The Following Cases
- Allergy to any of its ingredients.
- On broken skin, wounds or mucous membranes.
- Swallowing, or applying directly into the nostrils, eyes or mouth, or onto the face.
Warnings & Precautions
- Do not cover with a tight dressing or use with heat packs. Do not use boiling water to prepare an inhalation.
- Consult a doctor or pharmacist before use if you have asthma or a history of respiratory disease.
- Avoid smoking and naked flames; fabrics that have been in contact with the ointment ignite more easily.
- Pregnancy: consult a doctor or pharmacist. Breastfeeding: do not apply to the mother's chest.
- If a child swallows the ointment, consult a doctor without delay and do not try to induce vomiting.
Common Side Effects
- Skin redness or irritation, eye irritation during inhalation, or allergic reactions, usually mild and rare.
- Consult a doctor or pharmacist if symptoms persist or fever develops.
Storage
Store below 25 degrees Celsius. Keep out of reach of children.
