Gaviscon Double Action (GAVISCON DOUBLE ACTION) is an oral suspension containing sodium alginate 500 mg with the antacids sodium bicarbonate and calcium carbonate, in one pack. It acts in two ways: neutralising excess stomach acid and forming a protective layer over stomach contents to relieve chest heartburn.
Indications
- Reflux of stomach contents into the oesophagus and reflux oesophagitis.
- Heartburn and indigestion.
How to Use
- Adults: 10 to 20 ml after meals and at bedtime.
- Shake the bottle well before use.
- Not recommended for children under 12 except under medical guidance.
Do Not Use In The Following Cases
- Allergy to any ingredient.
- Kidney disease, blood electrolyte disorders such as low calcium, or liver cirrhosis.
Warnings & Precautions
- Contains sodium; consult a doctor for heart disease or high blood pressure, and avoid prolonged use.
- Leave a two-hour interval from other medicines such as antihistamines, tetracycline, digoxin, iron and thyroid hormones.
- May raise blood calcium with thiazide diuretics or vitamin D; do not take with large amounts of milk.
- Consult a doctor if symptoms worsen or do not improve after seven days, and before use during pregnancy.
Common Side Effects
- Stomach cramps, gas and constipation.
- Consult a doctor immediately if rash, hives, itching or difficulty breathing occurs.
Storage
Store below 30 degrees Celsius. Keep out of reach of children.
