Laxocodyl (LAXOCODYL) is a rectal-suppository product containing bisacodyl 10 mg in each suppository, in a ten-suppository pack. Bisacodyl stimulates large-bowel muscles and is used for constipation.
Indications
- Treatment of constipation.
- Emptying the bowel before surgery, X-rays or other examinations.
How to Use
- Dose: follow the patient leaflet or the pharmacist's instructions.
- For administration through the anus only.
- For children: follow the patient leaflet and consult a pharmacist.
- Do not use daily for more than five days. If a laxative is needed every day or abdominal pain persists, consult a doctor.
Do Not Use In The Following Cases
- Allergy to bisacodyl or any ingredient.
- Severe dehydration, bowel obstruction or halted bowel movement (ileus).
- Serious abdominal conditions such as appendicitis or severe abdominal pain with nausea and vomiting.
- Bowel inflammation, cracked skin around the anus or ulcerative proctitis.
Warnings & Precautions
- Tell your pharmacist if taking diuretics, corticosteroids such as prednisolone or other laxatives.
- Consult a pharmacist or doctor before use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
- May cause dizziness or fainting in some people; do not drive until this passes.
- Excessive or prolonged use may cause fluid and electrolyte imbalance, low potassium and dehydration.
Common Side Effects
- Common: abdominal cramps or pain, diarrhoea and nausea.
- Stop use and consult a doctor immediately for a severe allergic reaction such as face or throat swelling or difficulty breathing.
Storage
Store below 30 degrees Celsius. Keep out of reach of children.
