Folic Acid tablets contain folic acid 5 mg per tablet, in a pack of 20. Folic acid is a B vitamin used to treat anaemia caused by its deficiency. The leaflet states that it should be taken as prescribed by a doctor, so use under a doctor's direction.
Indications
- Anaemia caused by vitamin deficiency, associated with pregnancy, or following partial or total removal of the stomach.
- Sprue (intestinal malabsorption) and pellagra.
- Adjunctive treatment with other medicines for pernicious anaemia.
How to Use
- The doctor determines the dose and treatment duration, according to the enclosed leaflet or pharmacist's instructions.
- Do not stop treatment without consulting a doctor.
- For children: only under a doctor's direction.
Do Not Use In The Following Cases
- Allergy to folic acid or any ingredient of the product.
- Do not use alone to treat pernicious anaemia, as it does not prevent the associated spinal cord damage.
Warnings & Precautions
- Tell a doctor if you are being treated for vitamin B12 deficiency anaemia or a folate-dependent tumour.
- Tell a doctor or pharmacist if you take epilepsy medicines such as phenytoin or primidone, trimethoprim, proguanil or pyrimethamine, methotrexate or fluorouracil, or chloramphenicol.
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding: seek a doctor's or pharmacist's advice. The leaflet states that harm to the mother or fetus is not expected during pregnancy.
Common Side Effects
- Nausea or vomiting, stomach upset, sleep disturbance, irritability and depression; report these to a doctor as soon as possible.
- Stop use and consult a doctor straightaway if a skin rash, itching, shortness of breath, or sores on the lips or in the mouth develop.
Storage
Store below 30 degrees Celsius. Keep out of reach of children.
